Environment Jobs Scotland provided an opportunity to strengthen the capacity of communities and community sector organisations across Scotland to respond to the changing employment agenda and help realise the full potential for community engagement and active participation.
Environment Jobs Scotland's main activities included:
- providing information on what is available to stakeholders
- conducting research to identify training and employment opportunities within the waste, renewable energy and natural heritage sectors
- collection and dissemination of good practice
- development of proposals suggesting new approaches to filling skill gaps within the community sector
- development of a training & skills development programme for public agencies and other key stakeholders
- campaigning and the delivery of education and awareness raising programmes
- acted as a signposting and support body for individuals with queries relating to jobs in the environmental sector
- establishment of a website and an online Green Jobs forum
- organisation of a number of thematic seminars for waste, renewable energy & natural heritage
